Blurry vision and headaches: is it time for an eye test?
Learn how uncorrected vision, screen strain and eye health problems can contribute to headaches, plus when symptoms need urgent attention.

Headaches after reading, driving or screen work often lead people to wonder whether they need glasses. Sometimes the answer is yes, but headaches have many possible causes and an eye test should assess more than prescription strength.
The pattern of your symptoms helps. Note when the headache starts, where you feel it, what task you were doing and whether your vision changed at the same time.
How focusing effort can cause discomfort
Long-sightedness, astigmatism or an outdated prescription can make the focusing system work harder. The result may be tired eyes, forehead discomfort, squinting or blur that becomes worse later in the day.
Presbyopia also makes close work harder from around the forties. Reading glasses or another near-vision option may relieve the strain once the correct prescription is measured.
Screens can add dryness and strain
People blink less while using phones and computers, which can dry the eye surface and make vision fluctuate. Regular distance breaks, comfortable lighting, deliberate blinking and an appropriate screen position can help.
If symptoms continue despite these adjustments, a comprehensive eye examination can check refraction, eye coordination and ocular health.
When not to wait
Seek urgent care for a sudden severe headache with vision loss, double vision, weakness, confusion, severe eye pain, vomiting or halos around lights. These are not ordinary screen-strain symptoms.
For recurring blur or headaches without emergency signs, book a planned examination and bring your current glasses. Canon Eye Clinic provides comprehensive eye tests in Uyo and a written care plan after assessment.
