Children's eye exam in Uyo
A child-friendly vision assessment that picks up squint, lazy eye and the sight problems behind school struggles.
About 30 minutes
Children from age 3, pupils struggling to see the board or read, and any child with an eye turn, frequent squinting or head tilting.

Signs a child needs an eye test
Children rarely say their vision is poor, because they assume everyone sees the way they do. Parents and teachers usually notice the behaviour first.
- Sitting very close to the television or holding books close to the face
- Squinting, frowning or tilting the head to look at something
- One eye that drifts inward or outward
- Frequent eye rubbing, or complaints of headaches after school
- Falling behind at school without another explanation
How we examine children
We use picture and matching charts for children who are not reading yet, keep the pace playful, and let a parent stay in the room throughout. The assessment covers vision in each eye, how the eyes work together, eye alignment, and the health of the eye itself.
Why early matters
Amblyopia, commonly called lazy eye, responds well to treatment when it is found in early childhood and becomes much harder to correct after the visual system finishes developing. A test before a child starts school, and again if any of the signs above appear, is the simplest protection available.
Common questions
How old should a child be for a first eye exam?
We examine children from age 3. Earlier assessment is advisable if there is an obvious eye turn, a white pupil reflex, or a strong family history of childhood eye problems.
Will my child need drops?
Sometimes. Dilating drops give a fuller view of the back of the eye and a more accurate prescription in children. We explain it first if it is needed.
